Have you ever...

...caught your kids doing something cute and immediately regretted their attire, since it would make for a much better picture if they were wearing something else? Oh. You haven't? Just me? Okay.

Below are some oh-so-precious pictures of Jocelyn reading to Robbie. And in case you were wondering: Yes, she is topless. Yes, you can see her diaper sticking out of her shorts. Yes, there are toys, papers, a Baby Bjorn, and other random items laying around. But when your big girl grabs a Bible and starts reading to her little brother, you ignore all that and just grab the camera.

On the news

Some of you have asked if Lee was on the news, and the answer is yes ... but you wouldn't know it unless you were looking for him and knew what he was wearing. He's in the icon below (on the left in the short-sleeved yellow shirt). You can see his team around 0:51 on the video, but you actually see him from 1:08-1:11.

I'm gonna take a redo...

...on my birthday. Turning 27 hasn't been so grand. We got very little sleep, since Lee was working as part of his Urban Search-and-Rescue team on rescue and recovery at the Garner ConAgra plant collapse until 2am (and then headed back out after just a short rest). Lee had to deal with some rather tough stuff out there today, and I've barely seen him in the past 36 hours. My joints are acting up, so the rings are back off. Jocelyn had an infection (yes, maybe my MRSA, but we don't know yet) on her thumb - right on her good ol' thumb-sucking callus - that we had to have drained and bandaged this afternoon. From personal experience, I can say that it's not fun when you're 26 to have that done; from a momma's perspective, I can say it's much worse when it's your 2 1/2 year old. Due to all of this, Jocelyn missed her nap, making the evening difficult. I also had to do some grad school work that I fell behind on during my bout with MRSA. Then I couldn't request the book I wanted from the library because they messed up my account when I got a new card last week, and they can't figure out how to fix it right now. And I had to miss Bible study tonight. And Robbie has already woken up once (which is why I'm awake typing this instead of in bed sleeping, like I was not long ago).

So I'm taking a redo. I think I'm declaring Saturday as June 10, part 2. I'm not having a June 13 this year. I'm not sure what our plans will be for Saturday, but I think it has to be better than today.

(I must say, though, that I am incredibly proud of the important work Lee was doing. And I now have an even greater respect for the wives of those whose husbands serve us in dangerous places in the US and abroad after having Lee spend the last couple of days donning Hazmat suits and going in and out of an unstable structure to rescue and recover missing people. Furthermore, I got a great book from my parents that I'll be writing about in a future blogpost, and I know a couple more presents that are on their way, including the three seasons of Gilmore Girls that I was missing from my collection and a shirt from Wild Olive Tees, a great place for pretty shirts with a great message. And our friends the Lords let me and the kids invade yesterday evening for dinner and post-dinner fun - including bubbles for Jocelyn and the Lord kiddos and a chocolate bacon bar for me and Heather (yes, you read that correctly: a chocolate bar. with bacon in it. and overenthusiastic instructions for its consumption) - which made my birthday eve much easier. So it hasn't been all bad ... but, despite that, I am completely spent. And I'm still claiming my do-over for a few days from now. G'night.)

SMiLeS!

I'm WAY behind on blogging, so you'll be getting lots of pictures from late April and all of May within the next couple weeks, but today - until I finish a couple grad school assignments and do a little preparation for leading Bible study on Wednesday - I'll just provide you with some smiles. Be thankful for these pictures, since Robbie isn't very generous with the grins. In his typical laidback-little-man fashion, he doesn't often go to the extremes ... he doesn't fuss much, which is fantastic, but he also doesn't go to the other extreme and smile much either!
